Uganda is set to participate in the fifth edition of the Africa Regional IV Championship to be hosted by the Rwanda Golf Union this week, in association with Africa Golf Confederation and the R&A. It will be held at the Kigali Golf Resort & Villas.
The Uganda Golf Union flagged off the team today, September 30, 2024 to go and participate in this regional event.
The team will be led by the Coach, Flavia Namakula.
The players are Joseph Cwinyaai, Joseph Reagan Akena, Joseph Kasozi and Ibrahim Ssemakula. The quartet are very experienced especially at the regional level.
Africa is divided into five golfing divisions with each region mandated to develop the sport in their respective regions.
The countries in the Africa Region IV include Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
The fourth edition was hosted by Ethiopia Golf Union at Addis Ababa Golf Club, where the Kenyan team emerged victorious again, retaining the trophy.
Uganda is in a strong position to reclaim the title, with the selected players having shown good form in the last few local events.
The team is supported by National Council of Sports, the institution of government under the Ministry of Education and Sports charged with the mandate to develop, promote and control sports activities in Uganda.
The team will return to Uganda on the 7th of October and will immediately begin preparations for the All Africa Golf Team Championships to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
