Uganda U16 women’s national football team starts training for UEFA Friendship Tournament

Uganda is one of the nations that will play at this year’s UEFA U16 Friendship Tournament in Turkey.

The invitational tournament is an initiative by UEFA and this is the inaugural edition that will feature eights women football teams namely; Uganda, hosts Turkey, Botswana, USA, Vietnam, China, Paraguay and Wales.

Ahead of the tournament, Uganda’s team conducted its first training session at Luzira Prison ground, signaling the start of their preparations. The team, under the guidance of head coach Charles Ayiekoh Lukula and assistant coach William Moses Nkata, is focused and determined to make a mark in the competition.

Uganda is pooled in Group B alongside China, Wales and Paraguay.

The Tournament will run between 9th -19th April 2024 at the Turkish Football Federation training centre in Riva, Istanbul.

A squad of 21 players entered residential camp midweek at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi and the team is expected to travel to Turkey on Tuesday next week.
