Pepsi University Football League

Semi-Final, First Leg

SLAU 1-1 UMU

Friday, 3pm

 UCU vs Bugema, Mukono

Ssematimba Titus cancelled out Sentongo Robert earlier opener as St. Lawrence University (SLAU) came from behind to draw 1-1 against Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in the first leg of their Pepsi University Football League semi-final on Wednesday at Crown City Campus, Kavule-Mpigi.

The visiting UMU took the lead in the 5th minute after SLAU goalkeeper Gitta Musa fouled Nakibinge John Ben with referee Musisi Henry awarding a penalty which Sentongo Robert converted.

Ssematimba Titus almost equalised ten minutes later but his goal was ruled offside. SLAU however pressed on and were rewarded at stroke of half time when Ssematimba impressively beat four defenders to send a scorching shot past goalkeeper Nalugoda Amir. The second half saw more of the same pressing football but neither side was able to find the back of the net.

This is SLAU’s second consecutive appearance at the semi-finals –having finished third last season. Uganda Martyrs University used to be a punching bag in the earlier years, but has now made it to the semi-final stage 4 times in the last 5 seasons.

Last season, they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by eventual champions Kyambogo University.  Action continues this Friday afternoon when first time semi-finalists Uganda Christian University (UCU) host Bugema University in Mukono.
