In Wednesday’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League action, UPDF recovered from a heavy 5-1 loss to SC Villa, defeating Mbarara City 2-1 in a thrilling match at Bombo.
Goals from Frank Gladson Mugisa and team captain Benard Muwanga secured the win, while Henry Kitegenyi scored the lone goal for Mbarara City.
Mugisa opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a powerful free kick, putting UPDF in control. Just before halftime, Muwanga doubled the lead from the penalty spot after a handball incident in Mbarara City’s box.
Kitegenyi’s close-range finish brought Mbarara City back into the game, but UPDF’s defense held firm to seal the victory.
This win moves UPDF up to fourth in the league standings with 12 points, while Mbarara City sits in 10th place with nine points.
In the other match, Wakiso Giants and Lugazi played out a goalless draw at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, sharing the points after a closely contested game.
The latest results add more intrigue to the league standings as the season progresses, with top teams like KCCA FC, Vipers SC, and NEC FC closely packed in the race for the title.
