Uganda Premier League
Friday, 15th October results
*Express 0-2 Arua Hill
*Mbarara 3-1 Bright stars
*Onduparaka   1-1 UPDF

Uganda Premier League debutants Arua Hill SC have started their campaign on a flying start as they beat title holders Express FC 0-2 in the opening matchday of the 2021/22 season on Friday, 15th October at the Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku

New signing Robert Eseru scored Arua Hill’s first goal in the 62nd minute thanks to Alfred Leku’s assist.

Eseru would later assist Rashid Kawawa to put the game out of reach for the home side with a second goal. Leku, a former Express player had a hand in the second goal too and was named man of the match.

However, Eric Kambale, Muzamir Mutyaba and Martin Kizza stood out for the Red Eagles in a losing effort and will aim to make amends in their next outing.

Kizza had a chance to convert a free kick from near the area but he propelled the ball over the bar while Kizza and Mutyaba, among others missed scoring chances.

It was the first meeting between the two sides across competitions and the newbies to the top tier got the better of the champions.

The result also means that Arua Hill ends Express’ unbeaten run at home across all competitions that stood for the entire past season.

It was Express’ third straight loss in all competitions stretching backwards to last season where they were beaten by Al-Merrikh in the CAF Champions League and by BUL FC in the Uganda Cup.

In their next matches, Express will visit UPDF FC on October 23 at Bombo while Arua Hill will play SC Villa (still pending) on the same day.

Else where, Mbarara City condemned Bright Stars to a 3-1 beating while Onduparaka held UPDF to a 1-all draw in Arua.
