UPL: Kambale’s Late Header Helps Express Beat Police

Forward Erick Kambale rose highest after a poor clearence to nod home the only goal on the day with eight minutes to go as Express FC beat Police FC 0-1 on Tuesday at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

For both teams, the clash was the final game of the first round of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) 2020/21 season.

The first half had little to write home about with much of it being played in a heavy downpour, both teams struggled to put together a string of passes and maintain possession.

The Omondi surface had a few spots that were waterlogged making it impossible to have a rhythm.

After recess, Express charges came all out mostly using the flanks with Godfrey Lwesibawa and Charles Musiige but Police FC goalkeeper Derrick Ochan always came through to keep the hosts in the game.

With eight minutes left, it looked like the Red Eagles were dropping points once more but Erick Kambale had other ideas, the 20-year-old rose highest to nod home a poor clearence from the Police FC defence, sending the visiting side’s fans into wild celebration.

The win takes the Red Eagles to second on the log on 32 points, two points ahead of Vipers and one point behind table leaders URA FC.

For Police, they stay in 5th with 25 points from 15 games.

In the other game, UPDF FC and Wakiso Giants settled for a barren stalemate at Bombo Military Barracks Grounds.

Starting XIs:
