The Uganda Premier League (UPL) .enters an exciting weekend as Matchday 11 wraps up with two headline-grabbing fixtures on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
At Kavumba Recreation Grounds, second-placed Vipers SC will battle bottom-placed Soltilo Bright Stars FC with their sights firmly set on reclaiming the top spot.
Vipers, sitting just two points behind league leaders NEC FC, will need a win to leapfrog NEC, who drew 1-1 with URA FC on Thursday.
The Venoms’ coaches, John Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, will be confident as they face a Bright Stars side that has struggled to find form this season, managing only six points in ten games.
Later in the day, all eyes will turn to the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, where KCCA FC hosts city rivals Express FC in a fiery Kampala derby.
KCCA, currently third on the table with 19 points, aim to end a three-game winless streak.
A victory would bring them within one point of the top, while a win for Express (16 points) would see them overtake their rivals.
Adding spice to the derby is the reunion of Express coach Badru Kaddu and former KCCA players Emmanuel Wasswa, Herbert Achai, and Sam Ssenyonjo, who will be eager to impress against their former side.
Last season, the two sides split victories in their encounters, setting the stage for another thrilling battle.
With NEC holding onto a slender lead at the summit, the outcome of Saturday’s matches could significantly reshape the table.
