URA FC continued their steady ascent in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) standings with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lugazi FC at Nakivubo Stadium on Thursday.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe’s 23rd-minute goal secured the Tax Collectors their spot in fourth place, just six points behind league leaders NEC FC.
Ahimbisibwe’s decisive strike came after Joseph Ssemujju carved through Lugazi’s defense, setting up the forward to calmly slot past goalkeeper Fahad Emuran.
This victory not only ended Lugazi’s impressive eight-game unbeaten streak but left them precariously positioned in 12th place, just four points above the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, Maroons FC handed Police FC their first home defeat of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory at Kavumba. Police initially took the lead through Isaac Ogwang’s sixth-minute goal. However, Ivan Asaba proved to be the star of the day, netting twice for the visitors.
Asaba’s first came via a penalty in the 24th minute after he was fouled by Rayn Kizito. His second, a clinical finish nine minutes into the second half, sealed the three points for Maroons.
The result saw the two teams swap positions, with Maroons climbing to sixth place on 19 points and Police slipping to seventh with 17.
