UPL: Vipers dominate KCCA to extend lead at the top

Vipers SC secured an emphatic 2-0 victory over KCCA FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Sunday, February 16, 2025, to consolidate their position at the summit of the Uganda Premier League (UPL).

Goals from Yunus Sentamu and former KCCA star Allan Okello in quick succession sealed the win for the Venoms, who now sit three points clear at the top of the table with 40 points from 17 matches.

The result was further sweetened for Vipers as second-placed NEC FC dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Police FC in Kavumba. NEC remain three points behind the leaders, missing the chance to keep the pressure on the Venoms.

Sentamu opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a brilliant curling effort that left KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa helpless. Just two minutes later, Okello capitalized on a defensive error by Filbert Obenchan to double the advantage, coolly slotting past the on-rushing Mugolofa.

The defeat marked a tough week for KCCA, who also lost 1-0 to NEC just four days earlier. It was their fifth loss of the season, leaving them in sixth place with 24 points, a massive 16 points behind Vipers.

Elsewhere, Hillary Onek, Nicholas Mwere, and Abdul Karim Ndugwa scored as BUL cruised past bottom-placed Mbale Heroes in Njeru. The win lifted BUL to fourth place with 26 points, while Mbale Heroes remain rooted at the bottom with just nine points.

Meanwhile, NEC were held by Police. NEC took the lead through Cromwell Rwothomio just before halftime, but Emmanuel Mugume’s late equalizer rescued a point for Police. NEC’s draw leaves them three points off the top, while Police sit two places above relegation with 19 points.

Lugazi beat Wakiso Giants 1-0. Abdul Kalanzi’s 54th-minute strike earned Lugazi their fourth win of the season, propelling them to 10th place with 20 points. Wakiso Giants remain in the relegation zone with 13 points.
