Uganda Premier League side URA FC have announced the reappointment of Alex Isabirye Musongola as head coach on a one-year contract. Isabirye returns to the club with a robust resume, having previously led URA FC to their last league title in the 2010/2011 season and securing the Uganda Cup in 2012.
The appointment follows the departure of David Obua, who was relieved of his duties midway through the recently concluded Startimes Uganda Premier League season. Robert Mukasa temporarily took over as caretaker for the remainder of the season.
Club CEO Allan Munaaba voiced strong confidence in Isabirye’s ability to revive the club’s success. “We are optimistic that Isabirye’s return will revive our glory days, with his vast experience and previous success with the team being seen as key assets,” Munaaba said yesterday. “His immediate challenge will be preparing the squad for the grand opening of the newly refurbished Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium where we last won our league title as home ground.”
Isabirye’s reappointment is seen as a significant step for URA FC, especially with the opening match at the Nakivubo Stadium scheduled for today, 1st June 2024. The team will face off against Kitara FC in what promises to be a highly anticipated encounter.
Isabirye’s track record includes winning a double with Vipers SC in the 2022/23 season and the Stanbic Uganda Cup with Bul FC in 2022, highlighting his ability to bring success to his teams.
