FUFA Drum tournament

Sunday results

Rwenzori 0-0 Busoga

Karamoja 0-1 West Nile

Teso 0-0 Bugisu

Kigezi 1-2 Bukedi

Kabale district chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa joined a host of other leaders to applaud FUFA over the invention of the ‘exciting’ FUFA Drum tournament. Keihwa was the guest of honour as visiting Bukedi beat Kigezi 2-1 at Kabale municipal stadium on Sunday. “This is a very wonderful tournament. It brings football closer to the people and you can see the excitement. We have no big teams from Kabale but we are seeing top players in the country born in our areas play for our province; just like others do for their respective provinces. It was a nice idea from FUFA to start this tournament and I want to encourage leaders, fans and corporate world to embrace,” noted Besigye after handing over the Man of the match accolade and Shs100,000 cash prize to Kigezi captain and URA FC forward Ronald Musana after his commendable performance. Timothy Owori and David Owori were on target for Bukedi to secure their second straight victory while Dickson Niwamanya scored for the home side. Elsewhere, last season’s runners-up West Nile bounced back from opening round home defeat with a 1-0 away win over Karamoja in Kotido. Uganda Christian University (UCU) Brian Ade came off the bench to score in the 83rd minute. URA and West Nile goal keeper Alionzi Nafian taking the Man of the Match honors. At Nyahuka playground in Bundibugyo, Busoga and Rwenzori played to a barren stalemate despite both sides creating a number of wasted chances. Rwenzori goalkeeper Isaac Onyango Kwizera went home with the Man of the Match prize after keeping Charles Ayiekoh’s Busoga at bay. In the same vein, the game between Teso and Bugisu produced no goals as Bugisu and CRO FC star Steven Mukamba was named Man of the Match. The much exciting tournament invented last year to celebrate ancestry, rally patriotism, spread and market the game across the country and to unearth new raw talent continued on Sunday with four fixtures. The winner gets Shs32m from the Shs100m total prize money staked by FUFA.
