Uganda A suffered a 20-run defeat to USA in Match Four of the ongoing Women’s Easter T20 Cup, as their batting line-up failed to capitalise on a promising start in a modest chase.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Uganda A put up a disciplined performance in the field to restrict USA to 107/7 in their 20 overs at the Entebbe Cricket Ground.
USA’s innings was built on patience and steady accumulation, especially after Uganda A made early inroads. Despite moments of control from the Ugandan bowlers, the Americans rotated the strike effectively and punished loose deliveries in the middle overs to post a competitive total.
In reply, Uganda A’s chase of 108 got off to a cautious start, managing just one run in the opening over. However, Jimia Abdallah Muhammed and Asumin Akurut steadied the innings, guiding the side to 33/1 by the end of the powerplay and keeping the target within reach.
The innings, however, lost momentum as wickets began to fall at crucial intervals. Uganda A struggled to build partnerships, with the middle and lower order failing to withstand the pressure from a disciplined USA bowling attack.
Jimia top-scored with 37 runs, while Asumin added 23, but the rest of the batting line-up faltered, with several players dismissed for single digits, including two ducks.
Uganda A eventually closed on 87/7 in their allotted 20 overs, falling short by 20 runs as USA secured their first win of the tournament.
The earlier fixture of the day had been abandoned due to rain, but improved conditions allowed for a full match in the afternoon.
Despite the loss, Uganda A will take positives from their performance, particularly their early control with the ball and a steady start with the bat, as they continue to gain experience as a developmental side.
Aditiba Indrajitsinh Chudasama was named Player of the Match for his contribution to USA’s victory.
The tournament now takes a rest day before action resumes on Sunday, April 12, with Uganda set to face Uganda A and later take on USA.
