The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has unveiled a 30-member national swimming team that will represent Uganda at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games scheduled for Morogoro, Tanzania, from August 12 to 23.
The squad, comprising 15 girls and 15 boys, was selected after the conclusion of the USSSA National Swimming Championships held at Seroma Christian High School on July 26, where the country’s leading secondary school swimmers competed for national honours and places on Team Uganda.
The selected team features swimmers from eight schools alongside individual qualifiers, with Seroma Christian High School providing the highest number of representatives with eight swimmers. Aga Khan High School follows with seven swimmers, matching the number of athletes who qualified through the individual category.
Among the girls selected are Aga Khan’s Kirabo Paloma, Tyrah Muganzi, Kikambi Theresa, Ssemanda Crystal Tendo and Kahinji Nissi, alongside Paula Nabukeera and Kaitesi Blessing from British School, Rahmah Nakasule Kalungi, Mwangi Karen and Katana Hanisha from Seroma, and individual qualifiers Charlotte Sanford and Opolot Gabriella.
The boys’ team includes Thembo Scharzkof from Vienna College Namugongo, Nathan Nsereko, Rumanyike Alex, Kaweesa Jonathan, Inhensiko Peterson, Sanford William and Kimuli Kyle as individual qualifiers, as well as swimmers from Aga Khan, Seroma Christian High School and King’s College Budo.
Several athletes impressed during the national championships with outstanding performances that earned them places on the national team. Aga Khan’s Ethani Ssengooba emerged as one of the leading male swimmers after winning the Boys’ 200m Individual Medley, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly events. He also played a key role in Aga Khan’s winning boys’ 200m freestyle relay team and helped the school secure a second-place finish in the mixed freestyle relay.
Shree Sahajanand School’s Mbanga Zara was among the top female performers after winning the Girls’ 200m Individual Medley, 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke. She also contributed to Shree Sahajanand’s victories in the girls’ medley relay and mixed medley relay competitions.
Seroma Christian High School’s Nsubuga Arthur also delivered a strong performance, winning the Boys’ 50m breaststroke and collecting podium finishes in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m freestyle. He was also part of Seroma’s successful mixed freestyle relay team and the boys’ freestyle relay runners-up.
Aga Khan’s Tyrah Muganzi dominated the butterfly events, winning both the girls’ 50m and 100m butterfly races, while Seroma’s Rahmah Kalungi Nakasule won the girls’ 50m backstroke and finished second in the 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke events. She also helped Seroma claim victory in the mixed freestyle relay.
The team will now shift focus to the FEASSA Games in Morogoro, where Uganda’s selected swimmers will compete against the best secondary school athletes from across East Africa as they seek regional honours.
