Uganda’s national women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, capped off a flawless campaign in front of their home fans at Lugogo Oval, defeating Canada Women by 12 runs in the fifth and final T20I to seal a comprehensive 5–0 series whitewash and retain the Victoria Series title.
The hosts, asked to bat first for the fifth straight time in the series, posted 101 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Captain Janet Mbabazi once again led by example with a composed 26 off 31 balls at the top of the order, while Rita Musamali anchored the innings with an unbeaten 20 off 28 balls. Proscovia Alako then provided a thrilling finish, blasting 17 not out from just seven deliveries, including 16 runs off the final over, to push Uganda beyond the 100-run mark.
In reply, Canada fell short of the target, bowled out for 89 runs. Uganda’s pace bowler Jane Naume Amongin tore through the Canadian top order with figures of 3 for 12, while debutant spinner Teddy Oyella produced a stunning final over, claiming four wickets for 19 runs to wrap up the innings and seal victory.
The result confirmed Uganda’s dominance throughout the series, which they won 5–0 against a spirited but inexperienced Canadian side. It was a fitting climax to an entertaining week of cricket at Lugogo Oval, with the Victoria Pearls displaying discipline, teamwork, and remarkable consistency in all departments.
After the match, the champions received their gold medals and winners’ crown from LycaMobile Uganda’s Chief Operations Officer, Arvind Kakkar, and Marketing Director, Vikram Lal, alongside Cricket Uganda Chairman, Jackson Kavuma.
Captain Mbabazi expressed pride in her team’s performance and growth during the tournament.
“I’m happy we met our targets and showed maturity against a new opponent. The girls’ hard work is finally paying off,” she said. “This win builds our confidence ahead of our next international engagement when we go to Thailand for the ICC Women’s Emerging Trophy next month.”
Series Most Valuable Player Immaculate Nakisuuyi, who also celebrated her 100th WT20I appearance, praised the team’s collective effort and fighting spirit.
“It’s good momentum for us as we prepare for the next major tournament in Thailand,” Nakisuuyi said. “Everyone executed their roles perfectly, especially the bowlers. The batters didn’t always have it easy, but someone always stood up to carry us forward. We take all this positive energy with us.”
Canadian captain Amarpal Kaur, who was named the tournament’s Best Batter after scoring 118 runs at an average of 39.33, lauded her side’s resilience and learning experience.
“It’s been an incredible tour. Despite the results, we’ve learned a lot about playing in new conditions and handling pressure,” she said. “We’ll come back stronger and are looking forward to our next five-match series in Dar-es-Salaam against Tanzania.”
Uganda’s Kevin Amuge was named Best Bowler of the series after taking 10 wickets for 83 runs while bowling 75 dot balls. Amongin, whose early spell set the tone for the final win, earned the Player of the Match award for her 3 for 12 and two catches.
