The Victoria Pearls have intensified preparations for the 2026 Capricorn Series, with top-order batter Prosscovia Alako revealing that the team is placing a strong emphasis on improving its powerplay performance and sharpening bowling execution ahead of the tournament in Namibia.
Scheduled from July 21 to July 30, the Capricorn Series will feature official Women’s Twenty20 International (T20I) status, offering Uganda, hosts Namibia, Hong Kong, and Tanzania a valuable opportunity to earn crucial ICC ranking points.
The 14-match competition will be played at the HP Oval and the Namibia Cricket Ground, with Uganda aiming to build on recent international performances against quality opposition.
Speaking after the team’s latest training session, Alako said preparations have been comprehensive, beginning with fielding drills before players split into specialised batting and bowling sessions.
“The training session is good so far. We had a fielding session in the morning, and then batters had the chance to get some balls, while the bowlers are working on their variations,” she said.
One of the key priorities for the Victoria Pearls is improving their output during the opening six overs of the innings—a phase in which the team has previously struggled to maximise scoring opportunities.
“We are currently working on getting our runs in the powerplay because, normally, we never used to get enough runs. So, we are working hard to score more runs,” Alako explained.
The bowling unit is also using the training camp to refine its tactical approach, with an emphasis on disciplined lines, variations, and sustained pressure against opposition batters.
Uganda opens its campaign against Hong Kong on July 21 before taking on hosts Namibia the following day. The Victoria Pearls will then face Tanzania on July 24 before completing the round-robin fixtures with return matches against Hong Kong, Namibia, and Tanzania.
The tournament concludes on July 30 with the third-place playoff and the final at the Namibia Cricket Ground, where the Victoria Pearls will be aiming to convert their intensive preparations into a strong showing on the international stage.
