Vipers SC defeated KCCA FC 2-1 at the MTN Omondi stadium in the only league game played on Sunday.

The victory was vital for the Venoms who were seeking to maintain pressure on leaders URA FC who had defeated Onduparaka FC 3-1 on Friday and in the process, moved four points clear at the top of the standings.

Yunus Ssentamu and Milton Karisa struck for the visitors while Denis Iguma scored KCCA’s consolation.

After a timid first half show from the two sides, Vipers returned from the break like men on a mission as they scored twice in a space of 2 minutes.

On 55 minutes, top scorer Sentamu put the visitors ahead with his 13th goal of the campaign.

A minute later, Karisa double Vipers lead to put them on their way to victory.

Sensing the game was slipping away, KCCA called for a triple change that saw Samson Kigozi, Bright Anukani and Moses Aliro introduced.

The moved looked to have paid off as Iguma struck to reduce the deficit on 65 minutes.

Despite an improved showing, KCCA could not find a leveller as Vipers held on to register their first victory at the venue since 2017.

Victory takes Fred Kajoba’s side to 49 points, one behind leaders URA with eight games to play.

For KCCA, they stay in 4th with 37 points from 22 games.

KCCA will now seek redemption when they visit Police FC at Lugogo on May 12th, whereas Vipers host URA in what could be the title decider.
