Vipers eye league crown as relegation, top-five battles intensify
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The 2024/25 Uganda Premier League title could be decided this Saturday, May 10, with leaders Vipers SC needing just a win to potentially seal their seventh league crown.

Vipers, currently on 65 points, face a tricky test away to BUL FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. BUL, unbeaten in the second round, will be keen to delay the Venoms’ title party. A win for the Kitende-based side, however, would almost certainly wrap up the championship.

Second-placed NEC FC, on 58 points, must beat relegated Soltilo Bright Stars at Kavumba and hope BUL do them a favour. Should NEC fail to win, the result in Njeru becomes academic.

Meanwhile, at Royal Park in Hoima, Kitara FC host Maroons FC in a battle for top-five contention. Kitara, struggling with form and goals—having scored just once in their last five winless outings—are desperate for a turnaround. Maroons, two points ahead, could leap into fifth if KCCA stumble.

KCCA FC, fifth on the log, host Wakiso Giants at Lugogo aiming to bounce back from a midweek 2-2 draw against SC Villa. The Purple Sharks are in danger of relegation and will be officially demoted if they fail to pick up maximum points—regardless of Mbarara City’s result against Lugazi at Kakyeeka.

Mbarara City, three points above Wakiso, need to at least match their rival’s result to retain their topflight status for another season.

Elsewhere, URA FC and Express FC clash in a heated Nakivubo derby. URA, currently fourth with 46 points, could secure a top-four finish with a win. Express, just a point behind Maroons, have their eyes set on a potential jump into the fifth spot.

Action continues on Sunday, May 11, with SC Villa visiting Police FC at Kavumba.
