Vipers SC will host their first StarTimes Uganda Premier League game under the floodlights when they welcome Lira based side Blacks Power to St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende today.
This will be Vipers second game overall under the floodlights having hosted Tanzanian giants Simba SC in a night game during their group stage encounter of the CAF Champions League a few weeks ago.
Vipers entertain relegation fighting Blacks Power hoping to return to winning ways after going three straight matches without a win in the league.
The champions conceded a last minute equaliser in their last game at Maroons and last won a game against BUL in December.
Alex Isabirye’s men currently lie 4th on the log with 29 points, eleven behind leaders Villa but have four games in hand over the Jogoos.
However, they must start winning games and will be favourites against Hussein Mbalangu’s men who resisted defeat on Wednesday when they frustrated giants KCCA at Lira.
Vipers Head Coach Alex Isabirye wants his team to lock out all the criticism and focus on achieving the team’s season objectives.
“We want to achieve something big, of course. After dropping points in our last encounter against Maroons FC a lot of people are speaking about this team and about this club but I will say no season finishes after 15 or 20 games,” a confident Isabirye said to Vipers Media.
“We still have games still in front of us, we know we have to improve a lot of things and I’m sure we will do that.”
It remains to be seen whether any of Murushid Jjuuko, Yunus Sentamu, Marvin Youngman and Livingstone Mulondo will be available for selection after missing the last few games due to injury.
Milton Karisa who scored a brace on his return to the Venoms side will be the key man for the hosts alongside Karim Ndugwa who is still in search for his first goal at Kitende.
Second from bottom Blacks Power will rely on former Venom Dickens Okwir, Robert Eseru and Michael Siwu for inspiration.
Vipers won the first round clash 1-0 at the Akibua stadium thanks to a 78th minute penalty by Ashraf Mandela.
