Local football governing body, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Friday announced that they have cancelled the 2020/21 Regional Leagues season.

The cancellation is due to Covid-19 disruptions that have heavily impacted many sectors and aspects of life, with the current partial lockdown worsening the situation

“Due to supervisory and logistical hiccups caused by the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, FUFA has decided to cancel the FUFA Regional Leagues for 2020/2021 season,” FUFA said in a statement.

According to FUFA, efforts will be diverted to an early and timely kickoff of the 2021/2022 Regional League season, with the federation urging everyone to continue intensifying efforts in the fight to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the Country.

Earlier this week, Uganda Volleyball Federation cancelled the Aporu Okol Memorial Volleyball Tournament, also because the current disruptions caused by the pandemic.

Though competitive play is still allowed to continue, President Yoweri Museveni’s national address held on Sunday 6th June 2021 in which he issued several directives in a bid to curb the further spread of Covid-19 which included a ban on intra-district travel both using public and private means has caused a major hinderance to sports activities and the like.
