Fahad Bayo will not feature for the Uganda Cranes when they take on Malawi in their final AFCON qualifier on Monday.

Reliable sources indicate the former Proline FC and Vipers SC striker is nursing an injury which forced him to sit out Friday’s training session at Lugogo.

Bayo was tipped to start against Malawi after Patrick Kaddu was stretchered off on Wednesday in the goalless draw with Burkina Faso.

Kaddu too is an injury doubt for the game along with defender Timothy Awanyi who also did not feature in Friday’s training and also sat out the game with the Stallions.

FUFA Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein indicated that the Federation planned for such circumstances thus calling a big squad.

“With games being played in a short period and considering these are COVID-19 times, FUFA thought it wise to have a squad big enough to cater for occurrences like injuries. We believe the coach still has options to pick from.” Hussein noted.

With Bevis Mugabi and Khalid Aucho missing from the squad, Abdul Lumala carrying a knock and Elvis Bwomono returning to England, the Cranes technical team are now facing a personnel crisis of sorts and will have to make several key decisions before the game.

Uganda needs just a point in the game on Monday, to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

They are currently second on the group B log with eight points, one ahead of Malawi with only one game to play.
