Event: Captain’s Bell Tournament
Venue: Uganda Golf Club (UGC), Kitante
Date(s): 20th – 22nd May 2021

Local professional Abbey Bagalana is confident that he will return good scores when the paid rank of players tee off on Thursday at the Captain’s Bell tournament at Uganda Golf Club’s par-72 course in Kitante.

The tournament that is powered by Absa Bank, Uganda will be played primarily to usher in new UGC Captain, Patrick Billy and his committee which comprises of his Vice Captain/Course Secretary – Dr Alex Coutinho, Treasurer – Patrick Kagoro and others.

The three-day event will see professionals play on Thursday, 20th and Friday, 21st while the main event (amateurs) and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, 22nd.

Having had successful stints at a couple of events (both local and foreign) in the recent past, Bagalana is feeling dauntless and believes that he will claim the biggest chunk of the 8 Million Shillings pro kitty after two rounds of play.

“For me I’m ready for the event. I have been practicing on a daily basis and I’m hopeful that I will do well because I am in good shape,” Bagalana said ahead of tee-off.

Bagalana has had good displays in the two previous events he played in having won the Captain’s Prize tournament in March at UGC and later emerging best East African player (tied for 16th overall) at Ivory Coast Golf Open in April.

“I believe that gives me an upper hand because that experience will enable me handle any kind of pressure. I believe playing on home course also gives me an edge over others,” Bagalana noted adding that he’s looking forward to future engagements including those outside the country.

The Captain’s Prize tournament is expected to attract about 200 players.

Other partners for the tournament are; Johnnie Walker, Pepsi and Wine To Be.

The previous event held in 2019 didn’t have professionals category. Then, Colin Odere (41 points) and Peace Kabasweka (38 points) emerged overall winners in the men’s and women’s pools respectively.
