Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group Benefits From Betway

Sports betting provider Betway on Tuesday donated four industrial Juki sewing machines to the Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group to assist in growing its tailoring school.

The Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group was founded by Hellen Baleke, a 33-year-old boxer who represented Uganda at the 2019 AIBA All Africa games in Morocco winning a bronze medal for hercountry.

Largely funded by Baleke’s boxing winnings, the group launched a tailoring school empowering 36
women who had all fallen on hard times over the last year as the Covid 19 pandemic spread.

Betway was first made aware of the Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group through a series of news stories that highlighted the plight of the mother of six and her efforts to support her community.

In recognition of her amazing work and their efforts to give back to the communities in which they operate, Betway donated four industrial sewing machines to the group.

“Hellen Baleke is an inspiring example of what one dedicated woman can do to support her
community,” said Betway Uganda Country Manager, Adellah Agaba.

“Baleke’s efforts have largely come at her own expense up to this point and we felt that it was imperative that we do our part to assist her. We hope that these sewing machines will be the first of many contributions to come as we call on businesses to follow in our footsteps.”

Baleke who has expressed her delight in Betway’s gesture also opened up on this development.

“When I was told that people from Betway are coming to visit us, I thought it was a joke and I didn’t
take it serious much as I kept thinking about it, even getting sleepless nights sometimes,” Baleke said before adding; “we are really grateful for this support because it boosts our business and motivates us to keep working hard and believing in God that people with good hearts still exist.”

The donation to the Baleke Boxing and Empowerment Group is Betway’s latest effort to give back to communities across Uganda both on and off the sports field.

The betting provider sees these efforts as part of their responsibility to the communities in which it operates.
