Batball Uganda Limited has officially entered into a four-year partnership with the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) to strengthen youth cricket development across Uganda.
The partnership marks the return of the Batball program after nearly a year of inactivity, with the primary objective of nurturing young cricket talent nationwide.
As part of this agreement, Batball will collaborate closely with UCA’s Schools Development Program to organize tournaments targeting underage cricket enthusiasts.
These events will focus on identifying, developing, and showcasing young talent from various regions of Uganda.
Beyond talent identification, the partnership will also seek to commercialize youth cricket by attracting sponsorships and building brand visibility, aimed at enhancing the sport’s overall impact and reach.
The partnership will drive the sport’s growth through structured tournaments that provide young cricketers with crucial platforms to develop their skills. The tournaments will be organized in three stages:
- Batball Open: A regional-level tournament designed to showcase young cricketers across Uganda.
- Batball X: A higher-level inter-regional tournament where the best teams from the Batball Open compete for greater honors.
- Batball Maxx: The final stage, bringing together top players from Batball Open and Batball X, along with national and international players, to compete in a T20-format tournament.
Since its inception, Batball has successfully organized multiple tournaments, with the Batball Open 2022/23 held across five regions of Uganda. In August 2023, Batball X took place in Jinja and Kampala. Plans are already underway for the first edition of Batball Maxx, set for December 2024, which will feature top teams, music performances, and international players, aiming to showcase Ugandan cricket on a larger stage.
