Defending champions City Oilers started their pursuit for 7th straight league title on the high after beating last season runners up Betway Power 66-69 as this season’s FUBA national basketball league got underway on Friday at MTN Arena, Lugogo.
Betway Power new signing Syrus Kiviri scored game high 17 points but could not save the Anold Lando side from a losing start to the season.
Meanwhile, Women defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins got off the mark in pursuit of their second trophy with a commanding 70-49 win over last season runners up KCCA Leopards earlier at the same venue.
KCCA took an impressive 30-19 half time lead but JKL the subsequent two quarters on return 06-28 and 18-23. Last season MVP Jamila Nansikombi scored game high 20 points.
