Final results

Henry Rujumba Memorial 7s @ Kings Park

Stanbic Black Pirates last Saturday beat Betway Kobs to claim the second circuit of this year’s national 7s.

The second outing dubbed Buddu 7s was held at Masaka Rugby Grounds and was the first national competitive rugby tournament at the venue.

During the first circuit hosted by Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo, Pirates lost by the same margin to Betway Kobs and the Masaka result was a sweet revenge.

Kelvin Balagadde handed Pirates a pair of tries and was named man of the match.

Skipper Ivan Magomu utilized an extra and later dedicated the win to their ailing Coach Bobby Musinguzi who was down due to malaria.

“It is a stepping stone for us. We really came close last week and thank God we have done it,’ Magomu noted after the Budu victory. Pirates who beat Heathens 26-12 in the semi-finals will host the next circuit (Rujumba 7s) on 15th June at their new backyard; Kings Park in Bweyogerere and now Magomu believes that after coming out of Masaka on top, they are not ready to let it slip at home. “We are really proud ahead of our home circuit. We are looking forward to it,” added Magomu, whose Pirates’ female side also beat Mbale Eagles 17-00 in the female final.

Pirates and Betway  Kobs are now tied on points (41 each) with six circuits to go.
