Season Five of the Budo League kicked off on Sunday, 12th December 2021 at Legends Grounds in Kampala. The tournament has received a UGX50M boost from its title sponsor Guinness, a Uganda Breweries Limited brand.

The Budo League, powered by Guiness is a 9 or sometimes 10-a-side (if you’ve a lady in your team) football and socializing/networking event for the alumni of King’s College Budo.

The teams are formed by the class years with the top four outfits in the regular season featuring in the main cup semis and later finals (for successful ones) while fifth to eighth placed sides will feature in the second tier semis and finals also known as the George Semivule Cup.

Tournament President Christopher Segawa says that this is the third time they’re partnering with Guinness with the showpiece manifesting growth in each edition that passes by.

“We’re partnering with Guinness as our main sponsor,” Segawa said on Sunday moments after the season kicked off adding that; “this is the third season we’re partnering with them and we’re doing a lot of things together including Corporate Social Responsibility.”

Tournament President Christopher Segawa (left) poses with some of the team captains on Sunday.

Segawa adds that the regular season of tournament will be held biweekly (after every two weeks) and will run up to June 2022 but that’s if there are no disruptions.

“We have also had four new teams join the league, that is; classes of 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019,” Segawa said adding that they’re planning to introduce new games into the league in the near future.

Apart from Guinness, other partners are; Jibu Water, Case Hospital, Digida Events, Elevate PR firm and hosts Legends.

Peaky Blinders, class of 2014 are the defending champions. They beat Accumulators (class of 2003) 2-0 in the main cup final to win the fourth edition whose final was held in May this year.
