CAF A Coaching Course advances with key innovations in Uganda

The fourth module of the CAF A Coaching Course under the CAF Coaching Convention has successfully concluded at Multi-Tech Business School.

The module, which ran from November 12 to November 16, 2024, was part of a six-month intensive coaching program aimed at enhancing football coaching standards in Uganda.

Before attending the face-to-face sessions, participants undertook practical field visits in two groups—one at KCCA FC and the other at NEC FC in Bugolobi. These visits provided an opportunity to observe training sessions and engage with the technical and administrative staff of the clubs. The focus was on technical leadership and management, forming part of the internship program.

The module at Multi-Tech Business Institute covered specialized areas, including leadership and management, sports science, medical and nutrition, football fitness, and performance tracking systems. Participants were introduced to the Catapult system, a cutting-edge technology used to analyze performance data scientifically.

“We are very much aware of the changing trends in the game, especially the integration of science and technology. The FUFA President and his Executive Committee took a bold step to purchase Catapult equipment for the men’s and women’s top leagues,” said FUFA Football Development Director, Ali Mwebe. “By integrating this learning into coaching courses, we ensure head coaches are equipped to enhance training programs using scientific data.”

Coach Abbey Kikomeko of BUL FC praised the program, saying, “We dived deep into the 12 volume and intensity metrics tracked by the Catapult system. This knowledge is invaluable in shaping weekly training periodization, with clear insights into match preparation and recovery.”

Additionally, the participants conducted a live match observation during the Uganda vs. South Africa AFCON Qualifiers. This practical exercise included detailed match analysis, further enriching their understanding of game tactics and performance evaluation.

The CAF A Coaching Course will proceed with its final modules in December, culminating in the sixth module and an examination phase.

The program reflects FUFA’s commitment to elevating the standards of football coaching in Uganda, blending innovative technology and traditional coaching methodologies to prepare the next generation of elite coaches.
