Uganda Cranes are currently last in Group C of the CHAN 2020 tournament with just one point after two games.

Uganda’s further stay at the tournament will be guaranteed only if they win ‘massively’ against defending champions Morocco in their final group match on Tuesday 26th January 2021 against group leaders Morocco who have four points.

Togo who are second in Group C with three points will be up against third placed Rwanda who have two points. Uganda will hope for a ‘favourable’ result in this fixture and also they themselves come good against Morocco.

The final group stage matches that will be played at Stade Reunification- Douala in Cameroon will decide Group C teams’ early departure or further stay in the competition with only two top teams set to make the cut.

Uganda Cranes Head Coach Johnathan McKinstry and goalkeeper Charles Lukwago while speaking to the media during the pre-match press conference about the fixture against Morocco maintained that their side can proceed to the knock out stage of the competition.

CHAN 2020: Uganda  Maintain Positive Mindset Ahead Of Morocco Clash

“We are looking to create that cup final mentality. We need to go out and play the game. There is no next game at the moment. This is a cup final. We shall have a couple of new things because Morocco they bring different challenges. We have asked the players to put in more effort, work rate and intelligence like they did in the second half against Togo. We have told them there is no Quarterfinal for the team until they play and get a result the game against Morocco. We want to write a story for ourselves, for the country and everyone back home. The odds are against us but we believe it is possible,” Mckinstry said at the pre-match press conference.

Cranes goalkeeper Charles Lukwago has also maintained faith on his team mates and believes that their side can defy odds and storm the next round of the competition.

“We are positive and our targets set at the beginning of this campaign are still alive. We shall remain competitive as we head into the final game against Morocco. I know the challenge ahead but it all goes down to a positive mentality from my teammates when we walk on to the pitch. We want to create a great atmosphere tomorrow,” Lukwago said.
