Uganda Cranes delegation led by FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo left Abu Dhabi for Cairo, Egypt on Monday afternoon (3:55pm) ahead of the AFCON 2019 kick off in Cairo, Egypt this Friday.
The Cranes have been camped in Abu Dhabi for three weeks and they underwent intensive training in climate similar to that of Egypt.
The Cranes had two international build-up games in UAE –playing to a disappointing barren stalemate against little known Asian country Turkmenistan and stunning Ivory Coast with 1-0 win on Sunday courtesy of Miya Faruku first half penalty goal.
The delegation from Abu Dhabi that was also joined by FUFA Head of marketing Rogers Byamukama was received in Cairo by a four-man advance team led by Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, the FUFA third Vice president and also minister of state for youth and children affairs in the ministry of gender labour and social development.
Cranes Head Coach Sebastian Desabre cherishes the three ‘wonderful’ weeks of intense preparations in Abu Dhabi “It was a camp that helped a lot in the team preparations ahead of the Total AFCON 2019 Finals in Egypt. We concluded the training on Sunday at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Sports Complex. The morale in camp is high as we depart for Egypt on Monday afternoon aboard Egypt Air,” reported Ahmed Hussein, the FUFA Communications Manager and Cranes media officer.
Uganda whose best performance at the continental showpiece was losing to Ghana in the final at the 1978 edition, will open against former champions DRC before facing Zimbawe and record winners Egypt respectively in Group A.
