Kenya 1-1 Uganda

Uganda Cranes returned home on Monday morning after playing out to a one-all draw against Kenya Harambe Stars in an entertaining international friendly tie at Moi International Stadium, Kasarani on Sunday.

The Cranes returned aboard the famous Uganda Airlines Bombardier which they also boarded to Nairobi.

Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, the team skipper on the day, gave Uganda lead in the 22nd minute after being fed by William Luwagga Kizito but the hosts leveled matters in the second stanza through Kenneth Muguna.

There were no further goals registered by Cranes interim Head Coach Abdullah Mubiru saluted his charges after the splendid display.

The Cranes looked offensive minded throughout and were comfortable on the ball. Okwi, Tadeo Lwanga and William Luwagga Kizito had good attempts towards Patrick Matasi in Kenya’s goal posts.

Muzamiru Mutyaba replaced the injured Khalid Aucho mid-way the second while Bright Anukani was a late replacement for Allan Okello.

Mubiru, who celebrated his birth day a day later (Monday), also hailed the fighting spirit and confidence levels exhibited by the players.

“The players gave their best effort during the game with Kenya. It was also interesting how confident they were in the game with the ball. We continue to build a good team for the CHAN 2020 qualifiers against Burundi,” noted Mubiru, who has lost once so far in charge of the Cranes since handling the Cosafa team at this year’s championship in South Africa.

Under Mubiru, who also doubles as Police FC head coach, the Cranes drew 0-0 against Lesotho and South Africa respectively, lost and beat Somalia respectively before drawing against Kenya over the weekend.

Uganda Cranes XI: Charles Lukwago (G.K),  Paul Willa, Mustafa Kizza, Timothy Awanyi, John Revita,   Khalid Aucho (72’ Muzamiru Mutyaba), Taddeo Lwanga,  Allan Kyambadde, Allan Okello (83’ Bright Anukani), Emmanuel Arnold Okwi (Captain), William Luwagga Kizito

Subs Not Used: Joel Mutakubwa (G.K), Halid Lwaliwa, Allan Kayiwa, Mustafa Mujjuzi
