Defending champions Jinja SS made a strong statement on the opening day of the Boys Schools Cricket Week, securing convincing victories in their first two Group A matches on Sunday.

They outclassed St Joseph’s College Layibi by 9 wickets in the morning session at Jinja SS Oval, before dominating Teso College Aloet by a massive 106 runs in the afternoon at Mwiri Oval.

Jinja SS’s performance was matched by St John’s SS Mukono, who also had a solid start with a 60-run victory over Ntare School. Both schools now lead Group A, setting the pace as they vie for a spot in the Super Six.

In Group B, Nyakasura School, runners-up for the past two years, began their campaign with a commanding seven-wicket win over Shree Sahajanand School. Meanwhile, Gulu High School delivered the most eye-catching result of the day, defeating Kings College Budo by 60 runs. This impressive performance from the northern Uganda school marks a significant moment in the region’s growing cricket scene.

Busoga College Mwiri, the record title holders, had a tough time against Soroti SS but managed to scrape through with a 5-wicket win, chasing a modest target. Aga Khan School enjoyed a fruitful day, securing victories in both their matches, while Ndejje SS also started their campaign with an emphatic 88-run win over St James SS.

However, Masaka SS fell short in a surprising defeat to Delhi Public School, making their path to the Super Six more challenging.
