Eight Schools battle for inaugural FUFA Odilo title

The inaugural Odilo FUFA schools U14 tournament finals start this Sunday till the coming Wednesday at the FUFA technical center, Njeru with eight primary schools battling to become the inaugural winners of the newest competition under FUFA.

Citizens Parents primary school (Makindye-Kampala), Bright Valley (Gulu –Northern), Green Valley (Mbarara –Western), Oasis Annex primary school (Arua –West Nile), Busungu primary (Manafa –Eastern), Rays of Grace (Buikwe –Buganda), Tooro boarding primary school (Kabalore –Kitara) and God’s Grace (Serere –North East) are the schools that qualified from different regional qualifiers.

FUFA has 95 active district football associations and 62 of those participated in this inaugural edition of the tournament.

The main objective of Odilo tournament is to cultivate interest in young people to love the game of football at this right age.

More players, coaches, referees and parents are involved which is a multiplier effect. According to FUFA stats, 375 schools and 750 coaches were involved in the 575 matches played while over 12000 players and about 500 referees took part.

The inaugural tournament accommodated only boys but Darius Mugoye, the FUFA second Vice President said that next Girls will partake in the second edition.

The winning school has a trophy at stake which they will take for keeps while the two two finalists will represent the country in this year’s Federation of East African second schools sports association (FEASSSA) will all expenses catered for by FUFA.

The federation used immunization cards to scrutinize legit players. The winning school at the regional level was allowed to add good players from the teams they competed with at the regional championship to beef up their squad at the finals.

The same applied at the district level as the tournament is intended to expose talent. The teams will play a knockout format with the preliminary round winners heading to semi finals while the losers will play classification matches.
