FUFA has announced climax of thesuccessful ‘Project Cameroon 2019’ and ushered in a new ‘World Cup 2026’ campaign.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo revealed so to the media on Wednesday during a press conference at FUFA House, Mengo that was also attended by FUFA Second Vice President Darius Mugoye as well as three FUFA Executive Committee members; Ronnie Kalema, Rogers Byamukama and Hamid Juma.

Afcon Project Cameroon 2019 (before Cameroon was stripped off 2019 hosting rights by CAF and extended to Egypt) was a five-year project launched in 2014 to see Cranes qualify for Afcon 2019 finals but was accomplished earlier with qualification for 2017 Afcon finals in Egypt as Uganda returned to the continental showpiece after 28 years.

According to Magogo, FUFA has set eyes on the FIFA World Cup 2026 that will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico and USA. “Today marks the end of Project 2019 Cameroon we launched on 24th November 2014.

It has been a realistic project with many positives and definitely crucial learning experiences. We are launching the FIFA World Cup 2026 Project, we shall remain competing in the qualifiers for all the Junior and senior team competitions in between as we seek the set goal. To be more specific, we are looking at CHAN 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2026, AFCON 2021, 2023 and 2025,” explained Magogo, who thanked the different stakeholders, in particular President Museveni and the first Lady, who have worked as a unit to help FUFA achieve the set targets.

Like in 2014, FUFA will also hold a Symposium to brain storm ideas on how to reach the set targets, identify challenges and opportunities as well as pave way forward for successful football development.

Meanwhile, the FUFA Emergency Executive Committee confirmed that all the technical positions for the senior and Junior teams (U-23, U-20 , U-17, U-15) are now vacant and eligible candidates can apply for the jobs. The positions that have become vacant are: Head coach, Assistant coach, Goalkeeping coach, Medical Personnel, Video Analyst, Physical Fitness trainer and Kitsmen.
