Vipers SC vs Mbarara City, Kitende

Vipers SC Head coach Edward Golola believes new signing Shaban Mohammad will be very important in the club’s quest for glory in the forthcoming 2019/20 season.

The pacy striker officially joined the three-time champions as a free agent on Wednesday on a two-year deal after being released by Moroccan side Club Athletic Casablanca.

“He is one of the best strikers locally and if he can settle and concentrate, he will be very important to us. We just have to work on his psychology for him to settle -which we can, since he was under us as coaches during his days at St Mary’s SS, Kitende,” Golola revealed during the pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of this Friday’s Pilsner Super 8 tournament semi final clash against Mbarara City at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

Golola confirmed that the 21-year old will not make his debut this Friday as he starts training with the team on Saturday.

Shaban scored 18 goals for KCCA FC in 2017/18 season at KCCA FC before moving to Morocco in 2018 where he made only seven appearances with one goal. The former Onduparaka captain said that he was happy to join Vipers.

“I look forward to playing in the Uganda premier league again. I am keen to make my contribution to the team,” noted Shaban, who was 2017 COSAFA U20 championship which performance enabled him make the 2018 Cranes CHAN squad.

Vipers beat Proline 1-0 at the last stage of the Pilsner-sponsored preseason tournament to date Mbarara City at the semi finals while the Ankole Lions ejected URA FC with a 2-0 home win.

The winner and Runners up of this second edition have Shs20m and Shs12m respectively.
