Jinja-based Hippos rugby club are hosting the 2019 Busoga Forestry East Africa Junior Rugby Sevens this weekend Saturday and Sunday 2019 at the DamWaters grounds.

Hippos’ junior side –the Crocs will be one of Uganda’s representatives at the championship organized by Connect to Africa.

The Crocs participated in the Jinja circuit of this year’s National 7s series and shockingly held 11-time winners Heathens to a 5-all stalemate.

This annual event brings together girls and boys teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Uganda.  They compete over two days in Under 15 and Under 18 age categories.

Last year’s edition was held in Rwanda while Tanzania hosted the 2017 games. Tournament Director, Saidi Atibu revealed that 28 teams are set to partake in the two-day competition.

“We are ready to host the teams. All the necessary facilities and equipment is in place,” he said.  Freddy Davies, founder of Connect to Africa said that the event is designed to bring together youths in the spirit of friendship through sport and also help develop rugby in the region.

The event is sponsored by Busoga Forestry –a commercial forestry plantation company based in Jinja and also a subsidiary of Norwegian Company, Green Resources AS.

Busoga Forestry co-sponsored the second circuit of the National 7s Series at Damwaters last year and Deputy Managing DirectorImran Nakueira is delighted to be part of this weekend’s action.
