Olila Cricket Club pair of Esther Iloku and Proscovia Alako will make their senior ICC debuts for the Lady Cricket Cranes (Uganda women’s senior cricket team) at the Global World Cup Qualifiers having been named in the final squad for the event.

The young duo will be some of the players to look out for in team Uganda having had impressive careers at club level and the like.

The team’s final 14-player squad was announced yesterday by the selectors with the team currently undergoing residential training camp at Hawaii Resort in Kawuku, Entebbe. A provisional squad of 20 players has been in camp.

Team Head Coach Suraj Karavadra says that the selected squad is a cocktail of youngsters and senior players who he hopes will put up a good show.

“We have selected a squad that has a great blend of youth and experience, the core of the team has been to the World Cup Qualifiers before and we believe that we shall be successful in Botswana,” Karavadra told team media.

Karavadra revealed that the team will continue to practise as a squad of 20 because they have to do final Covid tests before travelling.

The team will be camped at the resort until they leave for the tournament scheduled for September 7th to 20th in Gaborone, Botswana where Uganda will battle 10 other teams for the single African slot to the next round.

Irene Alumo and Patricia Malemikia have received their maiden senior call ups. The rest of the squad members have at least made an appearance for the senior team.

Immaculate Nakisuyi has been selected to captain the Ladies team in Botswana and she will be assisted by Jane Mbabazi.

The explosive bats lady takes the reigns from Kevin Awino and her 1st assignment will be to ensure Uganda is the queen of Africa come September.
