Lady golfer Irene Nakalembe will on Saturday, 15th May be honored with a tournament at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club in a showpiece dubbed “Golf Day to Honor Irene Nakalembe,”

The event is primarily meant to celebrate Nakalembe’s dominance at the Entebbe Ladies Open after she further stretched her dominance at the tournament after winning a seventh successive title during the event’s 11th edition that was held in March 2021 at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.

Nakalembe, handicap four says that it is a big honor to be celebrated this way.

“It’s such a great gesture, I am humbled! Oh my God!, I would love to say a big thank you to the Palm Valley team that is doing so much work for this event to be a success. And to the main sponsor, Master Power Systems (U) Ltd, thank you and God bless you all,” Nakalembe said.

“I went to play at Palm Valley on Women’s Day just after the Entebbe Ladies Open and when they saw me they were happy, so they suggested to honor me for the 7 championships (of Entebbe Ladies Open) and chose the day,” Nakalembe revealed how she landed the opportunity.

Nakalembe for the seventh straight time hoisted the Entebbe Ladies Open trophy in March. She will be honored in tournament on Saturday at Palm Valley

Irene Nakalembe also added that she loves playing at Palm Valley because it’s the course that challenges her the most but she has also won accolades at the same place.

Many players have already registered for the tournament. The mode of play is stableford with players set to be seeded in respective groups.

Nakalembe who has won major accolades here in Uganda and beyond says that her major target this year is to break her duck at the ladies event of the Uganda Open Golf Championship with the event returning to her home course (Entebbe Club) after a two-year hiatus.

“I would love to win the Uganda Ladies Open, and any other tournaments outside Uganda. I have started practicing for it early enough and I’m not taking anything for granted,” Nakalembe admitted.

Apart from Entebbe Ladies Open, other major tournaments won by Nakalembe include; Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open, IBB Ladies Open and Ikoyi Ladies Open (×2) in Nigeria, among others.
