Ugandan professional (pro) golfer Abbey Bagalana shot 2-over par (74 gross) in the opening round of the Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast Golf Open) Golf Open when the event’s 21st staging teed off on Wednesday, 21st April 2021 at the par-72 President’s Club in Yamoussoukro.

Bagalana who was invited for the four-day event by President of the Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) Golf Federation Kouakou Laussi Emmanuel Koffi tied for 17th with 4 other players; that is Kenya’s Jastas Madoya, Ghanaian pair of Barry Dzardey and Koffi Enock Owusu and Ivorian Ramaric Djezou.

Bagalana who is the only Ugandan at the meet was one of the 30 players who made the cut from the opening round. 68 pros graced the opening round.

However, Bagalana is not convinced with his own display on day one and hopes to put up a good shift today.

However, Nigeria’s Willy Gift was day one leader with 8-under par 64, just three strokes better than his country mate Vincent Torgah who tied for second with Mampwanya V. off 5-under par 67.

Five players tied for fourth off 4-under par 68, that is; Richard Kouakou (Ivory Coast), Robson Chinhoi (Zimbabwe), Emos Korblah (Ghana), Sydney Wemba (Zimbabwe) and Sunday Olapade (Nigeria).
