The race to the semifinals of the 2025 Sky View Girls’ Schools Cricket Week intensified on Match Day Five, with powerhouses Jinja SS, Olila High, Sacred Heart SS, and Masaka SS booking their spots after five days of dramatic, rain-interrupted action in Gulu.
Jinja SS extended their flawless run with a dominant 167-run demolition of Nyakasura at Gulu Prison Ground. Powered by Mary Namiiro’s 66 and Elizabeth Acheng’s 59, Jinja posted the tournament’s highest score (194/1), before routing Nyakasura for just 27. With 21 points from six games, they topped Group A ahead of Masaka SS, who ended with 18 points.
Masaka SS’s consistency in tough conditions was highlighted by earlier wins, with their progress cemented despite weather interruptions.
In Group B, Olila High School finished top with 24 points, holding off Sacred Heart SS (21 points), who were equally impressive across matchdays. Sacred Heart’s calm 9-wicket win over Mt. St. Henry’s on Match Day Five reinforced their credentials, as Patricia Anek (11*) once again starred in the chase.
Meanwhile, Iganga SS stayed in the hunt with a tense 2-wicket win over Mt. Rwenzori on Day Four, but their hopes were dashed after losing to Light SS on Day Five in a nervy 17-run defeat. Despite an impressive fightback by Rita Aio (3/2), they fell short in a low-scoring thriller that sealed Light SS’s exit.
Ndejje SS made the loudest noise of the day, crushing St. James SS by a staggering 143 runs, with Blessing Apio (46) and Esther Arikot (43) doing the damage with the bat. Paula Mwebaza and Apio then picked two wickets each to complete the rout.
St. John SS also remained relevant in the mix, grabbing a key win over Masindi on Match Day Four, thanks to Irene Mutoni’s 3/12. But they fell short on points to Sacred Heart and Olila, ending third in Group B.
As the dust settles, the semifinal line-up is now confirmed:
Group A: Jinja SS (21 pts), Masaka SS (18 pts)
Group B: Olila High (24 pts), Sacred Heart SS (21 pts)
