The 2025 edition of the National Kids Athletics and Special Needs Education (SNE) Championship was officially opened in Kabale on Thursday, with a vibrant procession led by a school band from Kigezi High School Primary to Kabale Municipal Stadium.
The event, organized under the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA), drew enthusiastic participation from young athletes and education officials from across the country.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Hon. David Bahati, who urged learners to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, noting that sports instill integrity and discipline.
“We are proud of your efforts and participation. Sports is not only about winning—it is a platform for building character,” said Bahati.
Mr. Grace Munyambazi, the Principal Education Officer, assured participating teams of warm hospitality throughout the championship.
Meanwhile, Gilbert Orikiriza, the Desk Officer at the Ministry of Education and Sports under the Physical Education and Sports Department, called out districts that failed to present teams, reminding them that the government allocates funds to facilitate such engagements.
UPSSA President Mr. Bwambale Williams revealed that the national ball games will be held in Yumbe during the second term holidays, promising an even more competitive and exciting experience.
He also extended gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Sports for its unwavering support in promoting school-level athletics across Uganda.
The Kabale-hosted event marks an important chapter in the promotion of inclusive sports, especially for children under special needs education, with many spectators praising the level of talent and organization.
