Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC triumphed as the 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League champions, securing the title with a decisive victory over Kampala Queens FC on the season’s final day.
In front of a massive crowd at the Kawempe Muslim Valley Ground on Sunday, the home team delivered a 2-0 win that sealed their championship.
The season finale drew an impressive number of fans, all eager to witness the culmination of a fiercely competitive season.
FUFA Executive Committee Member Ronnie Kalema graced the event as the guest of honor, overseeing the crowning of the champions. Other notable attendees included FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, FUFA Deputy CEO-Football Decolas Kiiza, Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) Chairperson Margret Kubingi, and Crested Cranes coach Sheryl Botes.
Kampala Queens dominated the early stages of the first half but failed to capitalize on their chances. Hadijjah Babirye found the back of the net 15 minutes in, but her goal was disallowed for offside.
Both teams made substitutions before halftime. Kawempe replaced Mary Kabaculeezi with Allen Nassaazi, while Kampala Queens substituted the injured Winfred Kwatulira with Asia Nakibuuka.
The second half saw Kawempe Muslim Ladies capitalize on their opportunities. Agnes Nabukenya broke the deadlock with a well-placed free kick in the 67th minute. Substitute Nassaazi extended Kawempe’s lead with a header that beat goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro.
With this victory, Kawempe Muslim finished the season with 40 points, while Kampala Queens ended with 36 points. This marks Kawempe Muslim’s fifth league title in their history and their first since the league was rebranded as the FUFA Women Super League in 2019.
