Uganda 5-37 Kenya

There were no amends made by the Uganda Lady Cranes in the ongoing Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in South Africa as they lost 37-5 to Kenya Lionesses on Tuesday in their second game of the tournament at the Bosman stadium, Johannesburg.

Uganda came into the Kenya duel at the back of a humiliating 89-05 loss to South Africa Women Springboks in the opener last Saturday.

The Lady Rugby Cranes handled the opening half tempo to keep Kenya Lionesses at a 3-0 lead by half time. Kenya had taken lead through Grace Adhiambo penalty.

After the break, Naomi Amuguni cut through the Ugandan defense before offloading to Janet Okello for Kenya’s first try.

Grace Adhiambo dummy move and slice through Ugandan defense to set off Okello extended the lead to 15-0 after the Adhiambo conversion.

Uganda penalty attempt after Kenya infringement went wide and had to suffer the consequences. Staycy Atieno landed Kenya’s third try after Okello generously passed to her.

The conversion sailed wide by they stretched lead to 20-00. With 20 minutes to go, Uganda got their first try through Samiya Ayikoru, who also scored her side’s only try against South Africa, but the conversion was short to make it 20-05.

Moments later, Grace Adhiambo secured Kenya’s fourth try to make it 25-5 after Janet Owino missing the twos. Grace completed her brace but the conversion was wide.

Sheila Chajira fetched another try for Kenya as Janet Owino sealed the match with the conversion to make it 37-05 as Uganda put up yet another wobbly performance.

Kenya is now wait for the crunch match against South Africa on Saturday to determine who qualifies directly to the 2021 World Cup.
