The second edition of the HK Junior Golf Challenge was held over the weekend at Kilembe Mines Golf Club’s 18-hole par-73 course in Kasese District.

43 junior golfers graced the event. 40 players were from the home club while the other three came from Toro Club.

Event chief organizer, Habib Kissande has expressed excitement and fulfilment after successfully holding the showpiece that had youngesters compete and also showcase their skills in putting, chipping, shooting long range and nearest to the pin.

“All went well,’ Kissande said in a post-tournament interview adding that; “I was amazed by how competitive the children are getting. It was good seeing them execute their skills.”

Kissande believes that the event has laid a blue print for the budding players as they seek to grow in the game.

“I am sure this will encourage them to keep learning and training, which is one of our project (Golf As A Way Of Learning) goals,” Kissande added.

However, Hussein Kato and Rinet Mbambu emerged overall winners in the boys and girls category respectively at the event.

Kato managed 36 stableford points while Mbambu had 26 points.

Marj Tugume won in the age category of 8-12 years with 32 points, with Shaban Kambale taking second place with 26 points.

In the same age category, Hailah Mbayahi Kissande won the girls gender with 20 points and Harriet Masika finished as runner up on 15 points.

Godfrey Masereka won the 13-18 years age bracket with a total of 35 points ahead of Godfrey Kambale with 33 points.

Tungu Rihana (22 points) championed the girls’ gender in the 13-18 years category, two points better than second placed Eve Tuhaise.

Allan Birungi won the nearest to the pin competition and the longest drive was taken by Derius Thembo (after shooting 291 yards).

The Junior Golf Challenge was organized by HK Sports Managing Group. HK’s main event is the Kasese Junior Open which will be in held July this year.
