2020/21 FUFA Women Super League winners Lady Doves WFC have been approved to take part in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League slated for later this year in Egypt.

This development was confirmed by CAF in it’s letter to FUFA General Secretary Edgar Watson Suubi.

“Reference to the club licensing process for the CAF Women’s Champions League Egypt 2021, we acknowledge receipt of your federation’s communication of the licensing decisions in which the First Instance Body (FIB) granted license for the engaged club Lady Doves WFC based on the fulfillment of the CAF Club Licensing criteria set for the aforementioned competition,” CAF said in a statement signed by its Development Director Raul Chipenda.

According to CAF competitions and club licensing regulations, all participating clubs must undergo a licensing process at the Member Association level and have been granted a license to participate in the aforementioned competition.

“This, and in respect of the above the engagement of the club Lady Doves WFC for the CAF Women’s Champions League Egypt 2021 is validated,” CAF statement confirmed before commending FUFA’s efforts towards club licensing at national level, something the continental body says is a pathway to strengthening African football.

Lady Doves were crowned FUFA Women Super League champions in May following their victory over UCU Lady Cardinals

However, Lady Doves will have to seek a champions league slot via the inaugural CECAFA Women’s Champions League Tournament scheduled to take place from July 17, 2021, to August 1, 2021 in Kenya. The tournament will bring together ten clubs from the CECAFA Member Associations, whose winner will represent the CECAFA region in the CAF Women Champions League.

The CAF Women’s Champions League is a proposed annual international women’s association football club competition in Africa. The tournament will be organised by the Confederation of African Football, and will involve the top women’s club teams of Africa. It is the female count of the CAF Champions League.
