Saturday results

Busoga 3-0 Rwenzori

Kampala 0-2 Tooro

Buganda 4-2 Sebei

Ankole 0-0 Lango

Busoga, Lango and Tooro provinces became the latest sides to make their way to the quarterfinals of the 2019 FUFA Drum tournament after posting positive results on Saturday.

They join Buganda, Bukedi and Acholi, who already made the cut during the second last outing of the group stage a fortnight ago. Ten man Tooro Province edged Kampala province 2-0 with goals from Man of the match Keziron Kizito and Ashraf Mandela, who was later sent off for second bookable offense.

In group A, Busoga edged Rwenzori 3-0 courtesy of Patrick Gonahasa, Jimmy Kulaba and Man of the match David Bagole. Holders Buganda were 4-2 over Sebei with reigning tournament MVP Vianne Ssekajugo scoring a brace to cap his man of the match performance whilst Paul Ssekulima and Baker Buyala added one each.

Tomex Chemoges and Johas Ayeko netted for Sebei from the spot. Lango Province and Ankole province settled for a goalless draw for Lango to progress on goal difference.

The Drum tournament brings excitement

Muhammad Ssekeba of Ankole was named Man of the match –a feat that comes with Shs100,000 cash prize and a plaque. After Saturday results, Nuganda and Busoga provinces confirmed their place at the last eight from group A, Buganda and Lango from group B while Acholi and Bukedi already made it through from group C and D respectively.

The FUFA Drum tournament group stage climaxes this Sunday and the two other provinces from group C and D will complete the quarter final teams. The FUFA Drum tournament invented by the federation last year seeks to celebrate ancestry, rally patriotism, spread the game and unearth new talents.

A fan enjoys the moment

Uganda Tourism board, Nile Special, FUFA and government are the sponsors of the competition that has all the 16 traditional Uganda provinces taking part. Shs100m is up for grabs in total prize money.
