FUFA Odilo tournament final

Wednesday results

Rays of Grace 1-0 Oasis Annex

The ‘Odilo’ primary schools football tournament is the newest tournament invented by FUFA with an intention of taping, nurturing and exposing young football talents at a tender age.

The U14 developmental tournament was played in 62 of the 95 FUFA districts –where teams qualified to respective regional championships before eight schools represented each of the eight FUFA regions at the national finals.

The finals of the inaugural competition were officially opened by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo last Sunday at the FUFA technical center, Njeru.

Magogo was excited with the talents in the competition, saying that the players involved, if nurtured well are the reason why Ugandan football has a bright future.

“It is just a start; we encourage coaches and mangers of these teams to let the kids have fan and enjoy the game of football. At this stage you need to let the kids have freedom on the pitch as you discover different skills to develop. I am happy that the idea we had three years ago has come to be realized and as FUFA, we are very excited about the turn up and we are committed to this project. We saw a gap in primary schools and it is what we are trying to bridge without looking at the financial benefits or cost. We thank the support given to the tournament at its infancy stage by every stake holder,” noted Magogo, who was in company of FUFA second Vice President and organisation committee chairman Darius Mugoye.

FUFA technical development officer Ali Mwebe, FUFA competition director Hajjat Aisha Nalule, FUFA youth development officer Bashir Mutyaba among other stakeholders.

In the final played on Wednesday, Rays of Grace (Buganda) beat West Nile side Oasis Annex 1-0.

Captain Leonard Kasanya scored the only goal from a well built team attack late in the second stanza. The winner got a trophy but the two finalists will represent Uganda at this month’s FEASSSA games in Arusha, Tanzania with all expenses to be met by Fufa.
