The minister of sports and youth affairs in Buganda kingdom Owek Henry Sekabembe Kiberu has urged Corporate companies to consider sports for healthy living, bonding and connections.

The minister was on Sunday officially opening the 2019 corporate league games at soggy Kyadondo grounds in Lugogo, days after BBS TV, the kingdom TV singed a partnership with the Corporate League as the exclusive TV partners. “So many of our people; especially Corporates have died of diseases that could be avoided by physical training. Sports can offer the required physical fitness as recommended by doctors on top of connections for business purposes,” noted Sekabembe, who hailed the Corporate League leadership for overseeing its growth from 50 companies last year to over 70 this year.

“This year we are changing our rules. If the team is smart, ethical, disciplined, supportive and are sponsoring; they will gain more points so that people can emphasize on what the Corporate League aims to achieve; team work and team building,” noted Denis Mbidde, the Corporate League board chairman.

60 of the registered 72 companies turned up on the opening day of the 18th edition sponsored by NSSF and they competed in only football before being entertained by artistes led by Kabako of Team No Sleep and top comedians.

The Corporate League is played every last Sunday of the month and will compete football, basketball, pool, woodball, swimming, athletics, netball, tag of war, bottle racing, sack racing, volleyball and swimming.

David Agaba, the Corporate League chairman reiterates that they will ably accommodate the new companies. Uganda coffee development authority (UCDA), Electoral commission (EC) and Hotel African lead the football table respectively after winning their three opening games.
