The Kabaka (King) of Buganda His Majesty, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will appear to his royals for the second time in a wee when he graces this Saturday’s annual Kabaka Royal boat Regatta competition at Nabugabo sand beach, Masaka.

Eighteen (18) counties will battle for the trophy and Bull offered by the Kabaka. Eng Ben Misagga, the chairman organizing committee told Red Pepper that Kabaka will arrive at Nabugabo beach at midday before the competition starts at 4pm.

“Every county team will have five boat riders. Kabaka will officially flag off the competition and will award the winners with prizes of his wish,” noted Misagga.

To spice up the competition, the organizers have put different items at stake for fans in the treasure hunt. StarTimes offered a brand new digital TV with subscription of a full year while Pearl Seeds offered mobile phones and seeds.

Misagga received kits from Mbidde foundation

East Africa legislator Hon. Fred Mukasa Mbidde offered life jackets and uniforms to all the teams.

“When you enter, hunt for a treasure written on a piece of paper marked with a number. When your number is read, you will win the item that appears on that piece of paper,” added Misagga, who wants to make the Royal Regatta a source of income to the kingdom and a big annual cultural festival that will attract tourists.

The Kabaka royal boat regatta was revived by the Katikiro in 2016 and Kyaggwe were the winners before Kabula County won the following year.

The competition that was not held last year is meant to unite the kingdom’s people, sensitize about HIV/Aids and encourage people around lakes to enjoy water life whilst economically fully utilize the water resources.
