Mugisha prides in U17 Girls COSAFA success

Uganda U17 Girls national team returned home on Tuesday after winning the inaugural Cosafa U17 women championship in Mauritius.

Uganda that participated as a guest team was crowned as the champion after beating South Africa 2-1 in the final.

On return, the team that was led by Excom member Chris Kalibala, was received by FUFA football development director Ali Mwebe is company of other FUFA officials.

Head coach Ayub Khalifah Kiyingi lauded the players for the performance and commitment throughout the tournament.

“I thank my players because they remained committed from the start to the finish and kept on improving every game,” he said. Ayub, who was at his first national team assignment, also appreciated FUFA for the opportunity which he believes will breed into a better Crested Cranes team. FUFA acting President Justus Mugisha was equally ecstatic by the development reached upon by the team and reechoed FUFA’s commitment towards women football development.

“Thank you for winning this COSAFA U17 championship. It really shows that the efforts we have undertaken back home have reaped fruits with the right structures and development. We shall continue to support you at all time,” noted Mugisha during the team’s welcome dinner at Jevine hotel, Rubaga.

Each player was given a pair of playing boots and each school that had a player was given a pair of goal nets and three balls.
