Mutebi Explains His Interest In Younger Players

Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC have so far made seven new signings in this transfer window ahead of the 2020/2021 season that is anticipated to kick-off next month.

The new players acquired by the club are; Charles Lwanga (18 years), Ashraf Mugume (22 years), Stefano Mazengo Loro (26 years), Denis Iguma (26 years), Bright Anukani (18 years), Brian Aheebwa (22 years) and Andrew Samson Kigozi (22 years).

The age bracket of KCCA new signings is one of the youngest in average as compared to the age of the charges recently secured by rival sides in the top tier league. KCCA Coach Mike Mutebi explains why he prefers signing much younger players.

“I am really interested in players who are still in their early 20s. We want to groom a team which can stay at the club for sometime, so we give these players long term contracts to help them grow and gain confidence,” Mutebi admitted via KCCA FC TV.

Mutebi also added that the new players are some of the top charges in the league and this will increase competitiveness in the team.

“All these players are at the same level. Competition among players will help them grow and also help the club win trophies,” Mutebi said adding that; “going forward, we want to sign players who can adopt to the modern way of playing football, who can fit in our way of playing and also improve on our scoring.”

While commenting on the club’s latest signing, Andrew Samson Kigozi, Mutebi said that his (Kigozi’s) addition will give the dugout headache in times of selection.
“He is a good signing and also good for the growth of the team because this is a big team which at least should have three players in each position. If we are going to achieve our dream of being the number one club in the country, we should have a strong squad with good replacements,” a positive Mutebi added.

KCCA FC are reportedly still interested in more players notably Ibrahim Mugulusi of Busoga United.
